more before
Toilet area before
Cabinets before. Planning to paint them.
Tub and all the associated drywall removed - 22 Jan
Old worktop and mirrors gone. Got to figure out how to make good those massive holes in the wall!
Starting to rip out the floor tiles - 28 Jan
We've raised the shower head
And a frame for the shower niche
Adding supports for the shower seat (that black thing on the floor in the foreground)
We're going to build the shower tray ourselves. Curb in place and then first layers of tray - tar paper and metal mesh.
turned out that our shower handle didn't work wtih old valve so more plumbing work and we have a new valve.
New window! No more 1970s-effect glass blocks - 26 Feb 2017
Next we put these pre-sloped plastic rods down so we can level the first layer of concrete. - 4 Mar 2017
First layer done. That was hard work!
New subfloor in rest of the bathroom
Trying to re-use the mirror glass. First need to remove the mastick without scratching the mirror.
It is thick stuff! Plastic scraper and a hairdryer are my tools.
Thick vinyl layer is the next layer in the tray - 20 Mar 2017
The tiles arrive!!
Shower walls insulated, vinyl membrane installed and cement board being installed - 25 Mar
Shower niche installed.
One wall done
Cement board is all installed so now need final layer in shower tray. Again, pre-sloped rods will ensure proper slope.
Done! This layer was easier for some reason. very happy with the result.
Bathroom floor tiles installed but not grouted. - 2 Apr 2017
Trying to get tiles all done so we can install toilet before our guests arrive to stay for a few days
We have also tiled the inside of the niche.
The soapstone countertop arrives (with sinks installed) and we start to oxidize it with mineral oil. You can see the squiggle of oil on the left.
Soapstone is actually impenetrable, this doesn't soak in but causes the surface to oxidize. Very cool!
Love the look.
One set of taps installed.
Both sets of taps installed. Waiting to wipe excess oil off the counter.
Grouted.
Patching the gap between drywall and cement board - 27 Apr 2017
The area between the mirrors has been smoothed, ready for painting
I've put on the edge bead and started to make good the end of the wall
Patched the drywall and first coat of joint compound.
Ceiling is painted and a new shower light installed.
Cutting the tile to size before mixing up adhesive - 7 May 2017
Wall tiles start to go on
Three wall done! - 26 June 2017
Loving it.

Moldings for the mirrors - cut and painted - 15 July
Skirting boards installed
One piece cut too short so it gets patched. It will look much better when I'm done.
Installing the shower head
Shower head arm and valve handle installed
A weekend of work and the shower glass is installed. Very happy with our choice! - 6 Aug
